How does the father wound shape your relationship with money?
In this episode of Perspective Shifts for Healing, host Julienne Irons explores the connection between father energy, ancestral patterns, and financial behavior with Vangile Makwakwa, founder of Wealthy Money.
Vangile shares how her background in finance, combined with the lived experience of panic attacks and worsening finances, led her to uncover the deeper roots of ancestral money trauma and develop a holistic approach that integrates spiritual, emotional, behavioral, and practical financial work.
This conversation reveals how the father wound can show up as hyper-independence, money as safety, overworking, or avoidance of structure, and how these patterns are often connected to both the mother wound and what Vangile calls the “God wound”—our beliefs about worth, receiving, and whether we are allowed to have more.
You’ll also learn practical tools to begin shifting your relationship with money, including ancestral lineage mapping, nervous system regulation practices, daily money awareness exercises, and writing honest “letters to money.”
One of the most powerful ideas explored in this episode is Vangile’s perspective on “different frequencies of money,” and how your relationship with money may shift depending on what emotional, spiritual, and behavioral patterns you are tapping into.
This episode invites you to stop seeing your financial patterns as personal failures and to recognize them as inherited patterns you can interrupt.
In this episode, we explore:
How the father wound influences money, safety, and control
Hyper-independence and money as emotional protection
The connection between the father wound, mother wound, and money
The “God wound” and beliefs about worth and receiving
Ancestral money patterns and lineage mapping
Why working harder doesn’t always lead to wealth
Nervous system regulation and financial decision-making
Writing letters to money and building a relationship with it
The concept of multiple “frequencies of money”

How does the father wound show up in your birth chart?
In this episode of Perspective Shifts for Healing, host Julienne Irons explores the energetic and astrological dimensions of the father wound with astrologer Lumea Light. Using Julienne’s chart as a real-time example, this conversation shows how astrology can reveal patterns around identity, authority, belonging, and self-trust.
Rather than treating the birth chart as something that defines or limits us, Lumea reframes astrology as a curriculum for growth—a mirror that helps us understand the emotional imprints we carry and the strengths we’re here to develop.
Together, they explore how “father energy” can appear in a chart through placements such as the Sun (identity and being seen), Saturn (authority, discipline, and boundaries), and the 10th house (career and public legacy). They also discuss how the 4th house (home and emotional safety) and 5th house (joy and validation) can reveal early conditioning around approval, belonging, and expression.
Looking at Julienne’s chart specifically, they unpack how Saturn retrograde in Virgo in the 4th house can reflect early conditioning around precision, responsibility, and self-criticism, while a Pisces Sun–Mercury conjunction in the 10th house highlights intuitive leadership and the life lesson of building divine self-trust.
Throughout the conversation, Lumea emphasizes that challenging placements are not flaws or destiny but invitations to reclaim inner authority and redefine what father energy means within ourselves.
You’ll also learn how to begin exploring these themes in your own chart by looking at key placements and life cycles, such as solar returns and Saturn returns, and how astrology can be used as a reflective practice rather than a rigid identity.
This episode invites listeners to move from seeking external approval to cultivating self-trust, inner steadiness, and personal authority.
In this episode, we explore:
What the “father wound” looks like through an astrological lens
How the Sun, Saturn, and the 10th house relate to father energy
The role of the 4th and 5th houses in emotional safety and validation
Afflicted vs supported placements and how they shape early conditioning
Saturn retrograde and lessons around perfectionism and responsibility
Trusting intuition and developing inner authority
Using astrology as a mirror rather than a box
Why no one is “behind” on their healing path

What actually happens in the brain and nervous system when someone carries a father wound?
In this bonus companion episode of Perspective Shifts for Healing, host Julienne Irons welcomes trauma-informed neuroscience expert Dr. D’Marti Burgos back to the show to answer listener questions about the father wound.
This conversation expands on the main science episode featuring Joshua Rivedal, offering deeper insight into how childhood attachment wounds shape emotional patterns in adulthood.
Through a trauma-informed neuroscience lens, Dr. Burgos explains how survival-mode nervous system responses, amygdala activation, cortisol, shame circuits, and insecure attachment patterns can influence behavior in both fathers and their children.
Together, Julienne and Dr. Burgos explore questions about emotional neglect, alcohol use, jealousy, workaholism, achievement pressure without emotional support, and why repairing father-child relationships can sometimes feel impossible.
They also examine why some fathers misinterpret vulnerability as rejection, withdraw during grief, gravitate toward new relationships, or express love through control, comparison, silence, or emotional distance.
This episode offers a compassionate reframe: understanding trauma helps explain behavior, but it does not excuse harm.
Ultimately, healing begins when we stop asking, “Why didn’t he love me?” and start asking, “What does my nervous system need now?”
If you’ve ever struggled to understand a father’s behavior or wondered how early relationships shape emotional patterns later in life, this conversation offers powerful insight and perspective.
In This Episode We Explore
• The neuroscience behind the father wound
• How survival-mode nervous system patterns shape behavior
• Amygdala dominance, cortisol, and emotional regulation
• Insecure attachment and relationship patterns
• Alcohol use, neglect, and emotional withdrawal
• Jealousy, control, and comparison in father dynamics
• Why some fathers struggle with grief or emotional repair
• Achievement pressure without emotional support
• Patriarchal expectations and father-daughter dynamics
• Healing from the father wound through nervous system awareness

How does the father wound shape identity, attachment patterns, and the nervous system?
In this episode of Perspective Shifts for Healing, host Julienne Irons explores the science behind the father wound through the lived story of mental health advocate Joshua Rivedal and the trauma-informed neuroscience insights of Dr. D’Marti Burgos.
This conversation examines how early relationships with fathers influence attachment styles, emotional regulation, identity development, and adult relationship patterns.
Joshua shares his experience growing up in a religious community where his father was admired publicly but abusive at home. That split reality shaped patterns of avoidant attachment, hypervigilance, hyper-independence, and parentification, as well as a deep search for belonging.
Dr. Burgos helps unpack the neuroscience behind these experiences, explaining how the nervous system, mirror neurons, co-regulation, and attachment theory shape how children learn safety, connection, and self-worth.
Together they explore how trauma can be carried across generations and how healing becomes possible through awareness, nervous system regulation, boundaries, storytelling, and compassionate meaning-making.
Joshua also speaks candidly about the impact of his parents’ divorce, his father’s death by suicide, his own struggles with substance use and suicidal ideation, and how storytelling ultimately became a path toward healing and suicide prevention advocacy.
This episode offers both personal insight and scientific perspective on how the father wound forms, why emotional patterns repeat, and how breaking the cycle begins.
In This Episode We Explore
• What the father wound is and how it affects adult life
• How early attachment shapes the nervous system and identity
• Mirror neurons, co-regulation, and how children learn emotional safety
• The four attachment styles: secure, anxious, avoidant, and disorganized
• How abusive or emotionally unavailable fathers impact development
• Parentification and the burden of becoming “the strong one”
• Hyper-independence, approval seeking, and survival patterns
• Creativity and storytelling as trauma integration tools
• Trauma, epigenetics, and inherited emotional patterns
• How healing expands nervous system capacity and self-awareness

How does the father wound live in the body?
In Part 2 of our Father Wound series, host Julienne Irons explores how early attachment wounds show up in our nervous system with Inner Child Healer Stella Dove. This episode looks at how childhood experiences with paternal absence, inconsistency, or emotional shutdown can leave deep nervous system imprints that shape how we react in relationships, leadership, and everyday life.
Many people understand their trauma intellectually. They know the patterns. They’ve done therapy. But their body still reacts like they are small, unsafe, or unprotected.Stella explains how inner child healing helps us recognize these protective patterns in real time and build safety from the inside out.
In this episode, we explore:
• How the father wound shows up physically through tension, bracing, shutdown, and overexplaining
• People pleasing, fear of authority, and fear of visibility as protective adaptations
• Why triggers are not sudden but often the result of nervous system tracking
• How to recognize the difference between old survival responses and the present moment
• Micro pauses and grounding tools to reconnect with yourself in real time
• Compassion over shame in healing attachment wounds• Integration rather than trying to erase the past
• Rebuilding trust with your body and emotional responses• How inner safety creates authentic confidence
Stella shares practical awareness tools you can use in conversations, at work, in intimacy, and in leadership when old patterns get activated.
This episode is about noticing the moment your body tightens and choosing presence instead of autopilot.
Next week, we explore the science of the father wound with Dr. D’Marti Burgos and Joshua Rivedal.

What is the father wound, and how does it quietly shape our identity, relationships, confidence, and need for approval?
In Part 1 of our Father Wound series, host Julienne Irons sits down with social scientist and psychotherapist Dr. Karima Joy for a compassionate, grounded exploration of paternal absence, emotional neglect, and the hidden grief of what didn’t happen.
This conversation reframes the father wound not as blame, but as ambiguous loss — the grief of something we needed but never received. Dr. Joy explains how many fathers were emotionally shut down due to trauma, patriarchy, poverty, war, or survival, creating what she calls an inheritance of “emotional and spiritual bankruptcy.”
Together, we explore:
What the father wound actually is
Why “they did the best they could” can shut down healing
How approval-seeking, overworking, hyper-independence, addictions, and anxious-avoidant relationships connect to father wounds
The science of intergenerational trauma and gene expression
Why the longing to be chosen, guided, seen, and protected is a core human need
How to develop a “healthy inner father” or “inner daddy”
Reparenting through neuroplasticity and repeated practice
The difference between healing and bypassing
Why awareness must come before forgiveness
How to upgrade your inner default settings
Dr. Joy introduces the concept of cultivating your own grounded, protective, discerning inner father energy — one that builds boundaries, integrity, accountability, courage, and self-trust brick by brick.
If you’ve spent your life searching for approval, direction, or validation outside yourself, this episode will help you begin bringing that energy home.

How your relationship with your mother shapes your relationship with money, and how healing that root can change everything.
In this episode, Julienne Irons and Michelle Atlas explore money attachment styles, self-worth, and what it really means to receive.
Rather than focusing on budgeting or surface-level money tips, this episode explores how early attachment with our mother shapes our sense of worth, safety, permission to receive, and capacity to enjoy abundance. Michelle introduces the concept of money attachment styles and explains how insecure attachment can show up as overspending, under-earning, shame, avoidance, or chronic anxiety around money.
Together, Julienne and Michelle explore:
How unmet maternal needs can become money blocks later in life
Why grief and shame often live underneath financial patterns
What it means to “become your own mother” around money
How self-compassion and self-forgiveness open the door to receiving
The Queen archetype and reclaiming personal authority and sovereignty
Practical, embodied ways to shift from insecure to secure money attachment
This conversation is not about blaming mothers. It’s about understanding how early experiences shape what feels safe, possible, and allowed — and how healing those roots can fundamentally change our relationship with money.
This episode is for anyone who feels stuck, confused, or emotionally charged around money and wants to heal their relationship with abundance from the inside out.

This meditation is rooted in the intention of choosing the highest love for yourself, others, and the planet. Through breath awareness, body relaxation, and compassionate presence, you’re invited to soften fear-based patterns and reconnect with an internal sense of care and stability.

This practice may be especially supportive if you’re exploring themes around the mother wound, attachment, grief, or healing childhood experiences. There is no need to force anything or “do it right.” You’re encouraged to move at your own pace, pause if needed, and return whenever it feels supportive.

You can listen seated, lying down, or during quiet movement. No prior meditation experience is required.

This meditation is a companion to the Mother Wound science episodes on Perspective Shifts for Healing with The Hanged Woman available wherever you pod.
